The research was carried out under the following main topics:

• ecosystem processes - research activities are directed to the study of patterns of spatial variation of the characteristics of the processes of decomposition of organic detritus in brackish ecosystems and analysis of the relationships between diversity, taxonomic level and size, and functionality of the decompositivi in transitional ecosystems. The main objective of the research are some of the major transitional ecosystems of the Salento Peninsula (Alimini Lakes Basins Ugento).
• relations of coexistence and mechanisms of community organization - the research is carried out on an experimental basis, with work in nature and in the laboratory, of corporations for benthic macroinvertebrates in fresh and brackish water. The research is aimed at studying the role of body size in the relations of coexistence of species as a basis for organization of corporations and communities.
