Dr. Maurizio Pinna is Assistant Professor of Ecology (BIO/07) at the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences and Technologies, University of Lecce.
Dr. Pinna is a professor of Biomonitoring, Ecology of inland waters and Ecology in the curriculum of Biological Sciences, Science and Technology for Environment and Biotechnology, respectively.
The research is directed towards the study of patterns of spatial variation of the characteristics of the processes of decomposition of organic detritus in brackish and freshwater ecosystems, to analyze mechanisms of organization of guilds of benthic macroinvertebrates and to study the effects of natural and anthropogenic disturbances on the structural characteristics and size of the guilds of benthic macroinvertebrates.
Some research works have been published in journals relevant in the ecology of aquatic ecosystems such as: Hydrobiologia, International Review of Hydrobiology, Aquatic Conservation. Dr. Pinna works in national and international research projects (INTERREG IIIA, IIIB INTERREG), was in charge of a Young Researchers and currently is responsible for the research unit of the local project "Rivernet" funded under the Cross-border program INTERREG-Adriatico.
